SALEM, Ore. – The Bushnell women's basketball team finished the Corban Classic with a split, falling to Simpson University on Saturday, 77-47, less than 24 hours after claiming a big 20-point win over Lewis & Clark.
Â
The Beacons (1-3) struggled with the RedHawks press all night, to the tune of 31 turnovers, and posted their lowest offensive output of the season. Bushnell shot 29% from the field and were 3-for-25 from three-point range while being outscored 37-6 off turnovers. Â Â
Â
We just had a dreadful shooting night," said Head Coach
Chad Meadors. "They sped us up a little bit but we missed a lot of layups and open three-point looks. The dam opened and we started turning the ball over to boot and just panicked a little bit. We definitely have some work to do and we won't let this game define who we are."
Â
Dayvis Key was a bright spot for the Beacons, leading the team with a double-double as she scored a team-high 11 points with ten rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass.
Ellis Mastel added eight points while
Peyton Vorderstrasse scored seven and five boards. Bushnell did end the night with a 50-44 rebounding advantage and had 24 offensive boards, but only scored six second-chance points.
Â
Simpson (2-2) was led by Brooke Quintana, scoring 14 points while Senaida Barrientos and Carlesia Adams earned ten points apiece.
Â
UP NEXT: The Beacons will play on home turf for the first time next weekend, hosting their own tournament. Bushnell faces Rocky Mountain College on Friday at 7:00 pm and then Linfield College on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
