EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Guard Quentin Guidry (pictured) scored a game-high 19 points and the Northwest Christian University defense held Corban University to their worst shooting night of the season as the Beacons won their Cascade Collegiate Conference opener on Friday night, 69-58 at the Morse Event Center.

Corban, averaging over 90 points per game and ranked #11 in the NAIA in scoring, was held to just 33.9% shooting in the game, including a 26% clip in the first half as the Beacons held a 28-27 lead. Then NCU used an 11-4 run to open the second half, building an eight-point lead at 39-31 with 15 minutes to play. The lead grew to as many as 18 points before the Beacons settled in for the eleven-point win.

Head Coach Corey Anderson said, “Our goal tonight was to hold them below their average and we did a great job holding them under 60 tonight.”

Northwest Christian (5-5, 1-0 CCC) was led by Guidry's 19, shooting 8-for-17 from the field. Anderson said, “Quentin got the hot hand tonight and did a great job of letting the ball come to him and not forcing things too much.”

Kellen Spicer and Cameron Marshall scored ten each with Spicer added 13 points for his third double-double of the season along with a game-high three steals. Brent McKee added nine points and ten rebounds and Jordan Myers scored six points with a game-high six assists. Jordan Buhler came off the bench to score seven for the Beacons, highlighted by an alley-oop dunk on an in-bounds play from Myers. The NCU bench out-scored the Corban reserves on the night, 21-4. The Beacons also forced 16 turnovers while committing a season-low seven of their own.

The Warriors (7-2, 0-1), who came into the night receiving votes in the NAIA National Coaches Poll, were led by Jordan Carter who shot 7-for-14 and tied Guidry with a 19-point effort. Erik Cronrath scored 16 points, including an 8-for-11 night at the free-throw line. Ian Logan went for a double-double, scoring ten points and ten rebounds.

Northwest Christian will be back in action next Friday, traveling to Kirkland, Washington to face #14 Northwest University (7-1, 1-0). Corban plays in Olympia on Friday against Evergreen State (1-6, 0-1). Both games will tip-off at 5:30 pm.
