McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men's basketball team watched a late seven-point lead slip out of their grasp on Monday night, dropping their sixth game in their last seven, a 75-70 defeat at the hands of Linfield College at Ted Wilson Gymnasium.
Northwest Christian held a 54-47 advantage with eight and a half minutes to play, but the Wildcats scored 28 points over the final stretch, exploiting the Beacon defense to snare the victory. Linfield shot .545 from the field in the game, becoming the fourth opponent this season to shoot over 50% against the Beacons. The Wildcats also held a 37-24 rebounding advantage in the contest.
Head Coach
Corey Anderson said, “Getting out-rebounded by 13 and giving up a high shooting percentage is not going to put you in a good position to win a game on the road. Despite that, we were in it near the end, but couldn't come up with a stop in order to give us the offensive possession that we needed.”
Quentin Guidry (pictured) led the Beacons (5-8) in the loss with a career-high 28 points as he went 8-for-8 at the free-throw line.
Kellen Spicer added 17 points, hitting a team-best three 3-pointers.
Brent McKee added 14 points and
Jordan Myers collected five assists and four steals as the starting Point Guard.
The Wildcats (5-3) were led to victory by K.C. Wiser, scoring 26 points as he shot 10-for-17 from the field. Zack Meikle added ten points and a game-high seven rebounds and Zach Anderson came off the bench to score 13. The Linfield reserves outscored the NCU bench, 23-5.
Northwest Christian will be back in action on Tuesday night, taking on Simpson University at 6:00 pm.
