Defense Dominates in Shutout Win

Box Score

EUGENE, Ore. – Northwest Christian held Warner Pacific to just six shots on goal on Saturday evening, winning that Cascade Collegiate Conference clash, 2-0. Junior Jeneca Hoidal (pictured) scored the winning goal for NCU.

The Beacons and senior Goalkeeper Ali Foster recorded their school-record breaking fourth shutout of the season, claiming a 2-0 victory over Warner Pacific. Foster, who was an All-CCC honorable mention selection for Warner Pacific in 2006, earns the win over her former team, making six saves in the process.

The Knights (1-8-2, 0-4 CCC) held their own in a scoreless first half, as Northwest Christian held a slim 8-5 lead in shot attempts. But NCU continued to apply pressure in the second half, breaking through with the game-winning goal in the 58th minute. Rachel Urista had the ball along the right side of the field and after dribbling towards the box, passed that ball to her left to Senior Kori Wilgus. Wilgus flicked the ball backwards to a charging Hoidal, who punched in a 10-yard rocket for her first score of the season.

Wilgus picked up her second assist of the evening just four minutes later when her pass in the middle of the box found Kara Nelson. Nelson hit a solid five-yard strike, giving the Beacons an insurance goal and the 2-0 final score.

Northwest Christian (3-7-1, 1-3) will be back in action next Saturday, traveling to Salem to face CCC rival Corban College (10-3, 2-2) at 2:30 pm. Corban is coming off a close 2-1 loss to #1 Concordia in which the Warriors held a 1-0 lead at halftime.
