ASHLAND, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women's soccer opened up the Cascade Collegiate Conference season on Friday with a 4-0 loss at the hands of Southern Oregon University. The Beacons were out-shot by the Raiders 19-3 as NCU took just two shots on goal in the contest.
Southern Oregon (7-2-1, 1-0 CCC) opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Alexis Mahoney found Denise Powell, who punched in the eventual game-winner from eight yards out. Mahoney went on to score herself early in the second half. In the 47th minute, she headed in a throw-in from Alyssa Brickner.
Brickner also assisted on the next goal, scored by Sydney Paulsen after a collision with NCU keeper
Ali Foster in the 56th minute. The Raiders closed out their scoring attack in the 78th minute as Maddy Scott scored from 28-yards out on a shot that first hit the cross bar before bouncing in. Kennedy Roteman picked up the assist.
The Beacons (2-5-2, 0-1 CCC) got both of their shots on goal from
Rachel Urista.
Kori Wilgus registered the only other attempt for Northwest Christian. Foster took the loss in goal, but made eight saves in the effort.
NCU will be back in action tomorrow, traveling to Klamath Falls to take on Oregon Tech at 2:00 pm.
