EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore Centerfielder
Bishop hit for a combined cycle over two games on Saturday, but it wasn't enough for the Beacons as they were swept by Oregon Tech, 6-1 and 7-2. Bishop hit a triple and a single in game one and followed that with a three-hit performance in game two that included a homer and a double.
Kalyssa Koontz (4-7) took to the mound in game one for the Beacons and picked up right where she left off on Friday. Although another shutout would not be in order for the freshman, she was able to hold the Owls to zero earned runs on eight hits over 6.1 innings of work. All five runs that Koontz allowed were unearned, coming across on a combination of errors and passed balls.
Bishop gave the Beacons their only run in the bottom of the sixth inning with her lead-off triple, the first three-bagger for the NCU team this season. She was then brought home on an RBI groundout by
Brittany Robles.
Becca Anderson (11-5) took to the circle for Oregon Tech, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out four batters in a complete game effort. Brittany Warren was 3-for-4 at the dish with an RBI and Kayde Shaefer, hitting out of the nine-hole, added a pair of doubles for OIT.
The Beacons had managed just six hits in game one, but were able to double that total in game two and they outhit Oregon Tech, 12-9. The Beacons, however, left 6 runners on base in the game and twice had a runner on third base with less than two outs and were unable to bring in a run.
The only runs for NCU were scored in the bottom of the seventh inning on a two-run homer by Bishop, that also scored
Corrie Gustafson. Bishop went 3-for-4 in the game while Gustafson and Robles each went 2-for-4. Bishop now has 15 extra-base hits on the season (10 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs) which ties her own best mark, set as a freshman last season. She is just three extra base hits shy of breaking NCU's single-season record.
Brooke Davis (6-10) threw a complete-game for the Beacons and allowed six earned runs on nine hits, striking out six batters. Amber Knight (4-4) threw a complete game for Oregon Tech, allowing two runs on 12 hits with three strikeouts to pick up the victory.
The Owls (19-16, 9-9 CCC) were led in the second game by Sunceray Titus, who batted 2-for-4 with a run and four RBI, hitting a three-run homer in the sixth inning. Ashleigh Larson was also 2-for-4 and scored two runs.
Northwest Christian (12-17, 5-15) will be back in action on Friday as they travel to Portland to take on Concordia University at 2:00 pm.
