Beacons Close Season Against Thunderbirds

VANCOUVER, B.C. -  The Bushnell softball team closed out their 2026 season on Saturday with two losses, falling to the University of British Columbia 14-0 and 3-1.

Bushnell closes out the season with a record of 6-35, taking ninth-place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference at 3-21.

One bright spot for the visitors was an RBI single for Riley Peeler in the first inning of game two, which ended a 17-inning scoreless streak for the Beacons. The single proved to be the last of the season for the senior, who ends her campaign hitting .418. Peeler not only ranks fourth in the CCC for hitting, but she becomes just the second Beacon player in 25 years to bat at least .400 for a season.

GAME ONE: British Columbia 14, Bushnell 0 (5 Innings)

A microcosm for most of the 2026 campaign, the Beacons were plagued in their final conference game by five errors, leading to 11 unearned runs in the contest with the T-Birds scoring three in the first, six in the second and five in the fourth innings.

Their efforts provided more than enough support for Carleen Murray (17-10), who struck out five batters in five innings of work, throwing just the second no-hitter in UBC softball history.

Violet Richardson (2-11) took the loss, going 1.2 innings and allowing three earned runs. Senior Sara Martin followed in her final performance, pitching the final 2.1 innings without allowing an earned run.

GAME TWO: British Columbia 3, Bushnell 1

The non-conference game proved to be the most competitive for the Beacons of the entire series as they final found the scoreboard after three straight shutouts, while holding UBC to just three runs on six hits.

After Peeler's RBI single in the first, the Beacons managed two more hits, singles from Madison Johnson and Kaylee Lundeen. Gabby Garza (0-7) threw a complete game for the Beacons, allowing just two earned runs and striking out one.
