Beacons Swept by College of Idaho

CALDWELL, Idaho. – The Northwest Christian University softball team was swept in a Saturday double-header by The College of Idaho, 3-1 and 10-2.

The Coyotes Jody Zillner had a perfect game going against the Beacons through six innings in game one and C of I held a 3-0 lead heading into the seventh frame. Cassie Bishop was able to break through and break-up the potential no-hitter with an inning-opening single. Bishop eventually scored on an RBI fielder's-choice by Brittany Robles, thus ending the shutout bid as well.

The Beacons finished the game with just two hits, unable to match a strong effort by starter Brooke Davis (6-8) who allowed seven hits and three earned runs over six innings while striking out four batters.

Game two quickly turned ugly for the Beacons as NCU recorded a school-record seven errors in just the second inning alone, allowing the 'Yotes to score seven unearned runs in the inning. College of Idaho was tagging the ball, collecting a total of twelve hits in the five-inning mercy-rule victory.

NCU had five hits in the game, including a 2-for-3 day from Cotie Howard. Robles hit 1-for-3 and had two RBI for the Beacons. Brooke Judy got the win for the Coyotes, allowing just two runs over 5 innings while striking out seven. Kalyssa Koontz (3-6) went the distance for NCU, allowing ten runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out three batters.
