Vath Scores Another as Beacons Fall to OIT

EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women's soccer team dropped their fourth straight contest on Saturday evening, losing a 4-1 decision to Oregon Tech. The Beacons were able to avoid their eighth shutout of the season, however, as freshman Karli Vath connected on her team-leading 10th goal of the season.

The Beacons scored first in the game, getting the only NCU shot attempt of the first half in the 7th minute on an un-assisted effort from Vath. The Owls quickly tied things up in the 9th minute as Marcy Toro scored off a Brooke Cole shot that was deflected by Beacon keeper Katelyn Nistler.

The game remained scoreless for the rest of the first half as the Beacon defense held OIT to just 12 more shot attempts. In the second half, however, the Oregon Tech offense charged in for three goals on 17 shot attempts, while the defense held NCU to just one more shot-on-goal.

The Owls scored in the 57th minute when Janelle Stone collected her own rebound and put home the eventual game-winner. Kelly Lewis added a pair of insurance goals for Oregon Tech in the 63rd and 79th minutes.

Nistler finished with ten saves for NCU and OIT keeper Jaclyn Unruh made one save.

Northwest Christian (3-8, 0-3 CCC) will be back in action on Wednesday when they return home to Mike Kelly Field for a Cascade Conference showdown with Warner Pacific (0-5-2, 0-1-1 CCC), looking for their first ever Cascade Conference victory.
