Beacons Ride Offense to 8-1 Win Over Cyclones

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Beacons broke out of the 2008 gates with a vengence, posting an 8-1 win over Mills College, Saturday afternoon in Oakland, California.

Karli Vath and veteran Sam Stewart scored six of the teams eight goals (each recording hat tricks). Heather Henderson scored twice, and Vath and Krista Kline each assisted twice. In the process, the women's soccer team posted the program's first win in over 22 months.

Freshman net minder Katelyn Nistler, recorded three saves and allowed the lone goal in the 54th minute of play as Mya Oubre scored off a 30-yard free kick.

The win helped even the Beacons record (1-1), after dropping a 4-0 decision Friday night in Roseville, California, to host William Jessup. The Warriors held a 16-4 advantage over the NCU offense, while goalkeeper Katelyn Nistler nabbed seven saves in defeat.
