Beacons Swept Away in Washington

EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women's soccer team dropped a pair of 2-0 decisions this weekend on a road trip through Washington. The losses to Northwest University on Friday and The Evergreen State College on Saturday moved the Beacons to 2-7 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action and 5-12 overall.

On Friday the Beacons were in Kirkland for a 2-0 shutout at the hands of Northwest. The Eagles out-shot NCU 25-6 but couldn't break through with a score until the 62nd minute when Abby Brauer got an unassisted goal. They added an insurance score just 6 minutes later when Brittney Marshall took a pass from Britannique Clayberg for the goal.

Katelyn Nistler had ten saves in the loss, facing 12 shots-on-goal.

Saturday saw the action move south to Olympia where The Evergreen State took a 2-0 victory. The Geoducks scored in the 20th minute when Brianna Speed took a cross from Kate Green and shot into the lower right corner of the net for the eventual game winner. Green got her a goal of her own in the second half on a 35-yard direct kick over the reach of the Beacon keeper.

Evergreen out-shot the Beacons 20-13 as Sonia Daisley-Harrison recorded 5 saves en route to her fourth shutout of the season. Nistler added another four saves for NCU.

The Beacons will close out the 2008 season on Tuesday night as they travel to Portland to face Concordia (15-0-1, 9-0 CCC), the #5 ranked team in the country and the Cascade Collegiate Conference champion for the ninth straight season. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:30 pm for the Beacons.
