McKinley, Henderson Combine for Game-Winner

Britney McKinley
EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore Goalkeeper Katelyn Nistler recorded her second consecutive shutout of the season and the Northwest Christian University women's soccer team defeated Cascade College on Saturday evening, 1-0.

The two teams were tangled in a tough defensive tussle in the first half, with each team managing just three shots, including one shot on goal for the Thunderbirds. The score remained tied, 0-0 until the 61st minute when, for the second straight game, freshman Heather Henderson recorded the game-winning goal.

After a foul down near the right corner of the field, Brittany McKinley (pictured) took the free kick and placed a perfect cross to Henderson, whose powerful strike clanged off the hands of the Cascade keeper and trickled into the net. The win was strong evidence of the depth that has developed this season on the Beacon roster as both players came off of the bench in the game as substitutions.

Northwest Christian (5-8, 2-3 Cascade Collegiate Conference) has vaulted into seventh place in the CCC off the heels of their back-to-back wins. They will look to continue the streak on Friday afternoon when they play host to Eastern Oregon (3-10, 1-5). Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
