Andy Smith joins the NCU Beacons after spending the past 4 seasons as the head men’s basketball coach at Ocean County College in Toms River, NJ.
 
Under his leadership, the Vikings were able to produce a first team NJCAA All-American, a Region 19 and Garden State Athletic Conference Player of the Year.  2 – First Team All Region players, 4 All Conference Players, 2- 1,000 point scorers, 12 Academic All Region/Conference players and 14 players graduate with their associates degree. 
 
During the 2016-2017 season, Coach Smith led the Vikings to a 19-11 record.
 
Andy Smith graduated from the University of Hawaii at Hilo in 2002.  He was also a standout Vulcan basketball player, where he had earned several honors and records as a 6’6 shooting guard.  Also, Smith was also arguably the most sought after basketball player from Ocean County College, NJ earning All Region/Conference honors.  He was a graduate of Brick Memorial high school in Brick, NJ.
 
After graduating from the University of Hawaii at Hilo, Andy Smith served as Governor Linda Lingle’s Executive Liaison on Hawaii Island since 2003. In this position, Smith represented the Governor as well as 16 cabinet departments when interacting with community groups and individual constituents.
 
Over the past decade, Andy Smith has developed his non-profit organization Hawaii Island Hoops into the premier college prep developmental program in the state of Hawaii.  Helping hundreds of aspiring student athletes not only get better on the basketball court, but to have a solid understanding of the higher educational process, academic requirements, financial aid available and all aspects of the college recruiting process.
 
Andy and his wife Zara now live in Eugene.
