Beacons Take Third at Oregon Tech Fall Invite

COMPLETE RESULTS

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.
– The Bushnell University men's golf team had an impressive start to the Cascade Collegiate Conference season this week, emerging in third-place at the Oregon Tech Fall Invitational.

The Beacons shot a 302-287-291—880, matching the third-best three-round tournament score in school history and beating out host Oregon Tech by two strokes.  Trapped in seventh-place after Monday's first round, Bushnell put together a strong second round in the afternoon, posting the fourth-lowest score in school history as they were collectively one-under par.

Then on Tuesday, sitting three shots behind OIT with six holes to play, the Beacons closed by going five-under par on the final stretch to surpass the Owls to claim third.

"What an incredible tournament finish, moving up five spots," said Head Coach Nathan Wiedenmann. "We stayed engaged over the course of the round. I talked with the guys as they came through with six holes to go and let them know that this is really where the tournament started for us. I am so proud of this team. They all contributed in a deep way. They deserve all the credit for staying present and executing under quite a bit of pressure. I am excited to see how this team develops in the coming weeks."

Bushnell was led by Luke Fenner, who tied for 13th-place as he finished two-over par with a score of 73-73-72-218, while Shawn Petty (pictured) was close behind in 15th (76-73-71—220).

Just one shot behind Petty were the final two scorers for the Beacons with Peyton Wiedenmann (76-73-72-221) and Jacob Holmes (77-68-76—221) tied for 17th place.

Trison Hedges finished 44th for Bushnell (77-73-83—233) while Lincoln Wiedenmann, playing as an individual, claimed 51st (76-82-79—237).

The first CCC tournament of the season was dominated by No. 15 British Columbia and No. 20 Lewis-Clark State College. UBC fired a collective 33-under par score of 831 to set a new Cascade Conference record. The Warriors finished just four shots back at 29-under par.

Bushnell claimed third-place, defeating Oregon Tech (882) by two strokes. The College of Idaho (888) rounded out the top-five.

UP NEXT: After a few weeks off, the Beacons will travel to Laurel, Montana on September 28-29 where they will take part in the Beartooth Invitational, hosted by Rocky Mountain College.
