EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Carly Hanna posted the second-highest block total in school history and led the Bushnell women's volleyball team to victory in their home opener on Wednesday night, defeating Linfield University 25-17, 20-25, 25-9, 25-19.
 
Head Coach Jason Corwin said, "What a great performance from Carly tonight, when we are a little bit short staffed in the middle. She goes out and scores us a ton of points and had a huge scramble play that she kept alive in the fourth set when we were tied. That was a momentum shift and we cruise to the finish line because she makes a play outside of her position by sheer will."
 
The Beacons (2-1) out-scored the Wildcats by 31 points, hit .235 and collected 16 blocks as a unit.
 
Bushnell put together their most impressive set of the season in the third, responding well after dropping the second set. With a 10-5 lead, a kill from senior Soliel Sandsd put the Beacons in serve where senior Emma Fa'alogo proceeded to guide the Beacons to 12 straight points, a streak that included three aces and three blocks.

We had a solid performance in the first set, stubbed our toe in the second with way too many errors, and had a great response in the third. We were a little shaky in the fourth, but got some momentum going. They were having fun and when we play loose, we play good volleyball."
 
Hanna finished her career night with 11 blocks, including nine assists and two solo stops. She was just two blocks shy of the Beacon single-match record set in 2022. She added six kills and two service aces.
 
Taya Blankenship and Amyah Semau led the offense with nine kills apiece while Chloe Farr collected 18 digs. Fa'alogo earned 15 assists while Avery McCallister collected a match-high 16.
 
Linfield (0-1) was led by a seven-kill performance from Katelyn Mawdsley. Naia Alefaio-Foifua earned 15 digs and Margaritah Banuelos scored ten assists in the loss.
 
Linfield is a really good team. For a team that was in their first match after just a week or so of practice, I was impressed. They are going to win some games in their conference this year."
 
UP NEXT: Bushnell will remain home this weekend, playing host to the Corban-Bushnell Tournament. They start play at 1:00 pm on Friday, taking on Pacific Union College before facing Simpson University at 5:00 pm.
