CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Bushnell women's soccer team played an exhibition game on Wednesday night, marking start of
Toni Malone's coaching career against her Alma mater as the Beavers claimed a 5-0 victory.
Â
"It felt surreal to be back at OSU," said Malone. I am very thankful to Caroline and her staff for hosting us, and giving us the opportunity to compete against Oregon State was an incredible experience for our program. These are the types of opportunities that are irreplaceable and will only help us prepare as we head into Cascade Conference play next month."
Â
In a game which counted for Oregon State (1-2), Bushnell fought valiantly against an NCAA Division I opponent, coming up with numerous scoring chances and holding their own defensively against their Pac-12 foe.
Â
The Beavers finished the game with a 31-6 advantage in shots, scoring three times in the first half and twice after the intermission. Bushnell held OSU off the scoreboard for the first 17 minutes of the contest, but a pair of goals just 30 seconds apart gave the Beavers the only lead they would need.
Â
Elidia Cervantes-Carlos (pictured) was the centerpiece of any Bushnell offensive attack in the match as the sophomore finished with five shot attempts including the Beacons only shot-on-goal.
Â
Peppered with an aggressive attack from the Beavers all afternoon, Beacon keeper
Gabriella Montes finished the game with ten saves.
Â
Coach Malone said, "I thought we were really organized tonight and had some great moments in possession. I love that we stayed committed to the way we want to play, continued to be brave with the ball, and created chances on goal. I am incredibly proud of this team and the way that we competed against a really good program."
Â
UP NEXT: Bushnell will officially begin their season in eight days, playing host to Simpson University at 4:00 pm at Civic Park.
