Beacons Suffer Double Shutout

VANCOUVER, B.C. -  The Beacons started off their final weekend of the season on a rough note Friday, falling twice to the University of British Columbia in a pair of shutouts.

The Thunderbirds (25-19, 14-9), currently receiving votes in the NAIA national coaches poll, held the Beacons to just eight baserunners across 12 innings of play as Bushnell (6-33, 3-20) collected just six hits.

GAME ONE: British Columbia 8, Bushnell 0 (Box Score)

The T-Birds ace Carleen Murray (15-10) and Mia Anderson combined to allow just two hits as the UBC offense scored eight runs on eight hits in their first victory.

Gracie Hamilton singled for the Beacons while Claire Wright, playing in her first game of the season, went 1-for-2 with a double.

Sara Martin got the start and went three innings, striking out one and allowing five earned runs. Richardson pitched a perfect fourth inning to close it out.

GAME TWO: British Columbia 3, Bushnell 0

Richardson (2-10) went the distance in the second game and didn't allow an earned run, giving her seven innings without an earned run on the day.

Unfortunately, the Bushnell defense committed five errors in the contest and the T-Birds took advantage with three runs in the fifth.

British Columbia was led by a complete-game four hitter for Brynn Fortier (6-3) who struck out 12 Bushnell hitters.

The Beacons managed four hits including two for Riley Peeler. The senior holds a .425 batting average, which ranks fourth in the CCC and puts her in line to close out the season on Saturday as just the second Beacon over the past 25 years to finish a season above .400.

UP NEXT: The Beacons will close out their season on Saturday with two more against UBC, beginning at 11:00 am.
