CALDWELL, Idaho – Returning to the state of Idaho for the second straight weekend, the Beacons fell victim to The College of Idaho on Saturday, dropping both ends of a Cascade Collegiate Conference double-header, 17-11 and 7-6.
Â
GAME ONE: College of Idaho 17, Bushnell 11
Â
The opening contest featured 28 combined runs and 34 combined hits in an offensive barrage that saw the Yotes come out on top. The Beacons took a 5-2 lead and were cruising behind starter
Kai Keamo (1-3) before the senior got into trouble in the fifth inning, walking three of the first four batters before coming out. He was on the hook for all five that scored in the frame as the Yotes took a 7-5 lead. They would make it 10-6 after the sixth, and just kept scoring, enough to hold off a five-run rally from the Beacons over the final two innings. Â
Â
Bushnell pounded out 17 hits in the game including three apiece from
Max Richards,
Mason Millar, and
Nigel Fahland (pictured).
Dylan Carson went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three RBI.
Â
GAME TWO: College of Idaho 7, Bushnell 6
Â
The Yotes did all of their damage in the bottom of the first inning, scoring seven runs on starter
Hunter Schwenk (0-1). The Beacons slowly chipped away, but couldn't get over the hump as both bullpens took over. Bushnell didn't get a hit over the final six innings, while the Yotes managed just three hits over the final eight.
Â
Tristan Mallari went 5.2 innings scoreless innings, striking out three batters and giving up three hits.
Micah English closed the game out, striking out three of the four batters he faced in 1.1 innings of work.
Â
