Box Score 2 SANTA CLARITA, Calif.– The Bushnell baseball team played two completely different games on Friday afternoon as they split a double-header in Southern California, earning a 12-1 run-rule victory over The Master's University in the opener before dropping game two to the Mustangs 6-0.
Â
Head Coach
Jamie Womack said, "We had a complete tale of two teams today. Wolfe gave us a great start and DJ closed the door. The offense rallied around each other and we had both big homers and consistency. In game one we came out competitive, focused and on the hunt. Game two was a very poor offensive focus. Loreto gave us a good start and left with the game in reach but our offense could never get to the adjustment."
Â
GAME ONE: Bushnell 12, The Master's 1 (7 Innings)
Â
The Beacons combined for 17 hits, scoring early and often in a dominant showing in the opener. The Beacons had six extra-base hits including three dingers, and used a six-run top of the seventh inning to put the game away early via the run-rule. Â
Â
It was the second straight weekend that Bushnell was able to put up strong hitting against their opponent's top pitch, and this time they had the pitching to match.
Austin Wolfe (1-1) bounced back from a rough opener against Simpson to throw five innings, allowing one earned run on six hits.
DJ Kauahi closed out the final two innings, striking out and not giving up a hit.
Â
Albert Jennings went 4-for-5 in the game with a pair of doubles while
Max Richards and
Chase Nye had three hits apiece.
Nate Stevens,
Dylan Carson and
Danny Womack all went yard for the Beacons with Carson and Womack hitting back-to-back bombs in the seventh.
Nigel Fahland added a three-run triple in the second inning for what would amount to the game-winning hit as it put the Beacons out of reach.
Â
GAME TWO: The Master's 6, Bushnell 0 (7 innings)
Â
Playing a scheduled seven-inning game (Great Southwest Athletic Conference standards) in the night cap, the Beacons had everything that went right in game one go the opposite direction as they found themselves the victims of 15 strikeouts in their first shutout of the season.
Â
The Beacons collected just four hits, including doubles for Richards and Fahland.
Â
Loreto Siniscalchi (0-1) got the start and pitched a scoreless three innings before coming out in the fourth after allowing a two-run home run that proved to be the difference maker.
Â
UP NEXT: The Beacons (4-2) close out their four-game set with The Master's (3-5) on Saturday with another nine-inning/seven-inning double-header beginning at 11:00 am.
