Beacons Bounce Wolves in Straight Sets

EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell volleyball team jump started senior weekend on Friday with a strong three-set win over Walla Walla University, 25-20, 25-18, 25-17.

The Beacons (16-8, 11-6 CCC) hit .252 in the contest and held the Wolves to just .056 on the attack, using six blocks while benefitting from 23 unforced errors. The win clinches a top-six finish in the CCC, guaranteeing at least a home play-in game, while they still aim for a top-four finish and an automatic bid into the CCC quarterfinals.

Head Coach Jason Corwin said, "we had a steady performance this afternoon. We got some consistent pressure in all three sets and we were able to close out each on runs. This was a quality win against a team playing good volleyball."

The Beacons were led on offense by Taya Blankenship (pictured), hitting .458 with 13 kills and nine digs. Amyah Semau and Soleil Sands added seven kills apiece with Sands adding in four blocks. Aliyah Malone hit .455 and added six kills while Chloe Farr led all Beacons with ten digs.

Blankenship said, "This team has been putting in so much hard work both on and off the court and today we had the opportunity to show what we have been working toward. I am really proud of how we came together and competed in every aspect of the game."

Emma Fa'alogo and Avery McCallister continued their strong tag-team efforts in setting, combining for 34 assists. McCallister had 19 assists and seven digs while Fa'alogo posted 15 assists, seven digs and three service aces, matching Carly Hanna for the match high in that category.

Walla Walla (5-14, 5-12) was led by Sahara Browning, earning a double-double with 15 kills and ten digs. No one else on the Wolves side had more than three kills.

UP NEXT: The Beacons will play their final home game on Saturday at 4:00 pm, taking on No. 20 Lewis-Clark State College. Bushnell will honor seniors Hannah Brunston, Jerzie Bair, Emma Fa'alogo, Carly Hanna, Soliel Sands, Chloe Farr, Amyah Semau, and Ashlyn Tai in a pre-game ceremony.
