Knights Earn Victory over Beacons

EUGENE, Ore.  – The Warner Pacific University women's soccer team snapped a three-game losing streak to Bushnell University as they knocked off the Beacons 3-1 on Friday afternoon.

The Beacons (2-4-2, 1-3 CCC) out-shot the Knights (3-3-1, 2-2) 14-10, but Warner Pacific took better advantage of their opportunities.

Head Coach Toni Malone said, "Today was a tough result, especially because I felt we were the better soccer team for much of the match. A few costly mistakes led to goals and having to play down a player after a difficult call added another challenge for us to overcome. Despite all of that, I am proud of the way our group continues to compete and fight until the end.

WPU took the lead in the 7th minute as Kylie Warner scored unassisted and the Knights took the 1-0 lead into the intermission. They doubled the lead in the 54th minute on a Mira Thornton score.

Bushnell got on the board in the 67th minute as they were awarded a penalty kick which Elidia Cervantes Carlos put into the back of the net. Warner Pacific added an insurance goal late.

UP NEXT: Bushnell remains on the road and will be in Washington on Sunday morning, taking on Walla Walla University 10:30 am. "I have a lot of confidence in this team and our ability to respond," said Coach Malone. "We will learn from today, turn our focus forward, and be ready to compete again on Sunday."
