EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell men's basketball team out-rebounded The Evergreen State College 51-21 on Friday night and had three players score at least 23-points, leading wire-to-wire for a 104-80 Cascade Collegiate Conference victory.
The Beacons (6-6, 3-2 CCC) had nearly as many offensive rebounds (18) as the Geoducks had in total, turning that margin into a 22-2 advantage in second-chance scoring. Bushnell also earned a 46-36 margin on points-in-the-point, and out-gunned ESC as they shot 54.7% from the field.
Bushnell jumped out to a 17-0 lead in just four minutes and held Evergreen to just one field goal for the first seven minutes as they built a 24-4 advantage, never looking back. The Beacons earned a 55-32 advantage by halftime, and never let the Geoducks get closer than 12 points for the remainder of the contest.
"This was a great team win tonight," said head coach
Eddie Alexander. "We started the game extremely well. Evergreen never gave up and kept fighting all night, but I like how we responded and kept stretching the lead."
Leading the team in scoring was senior
Squeeky Johnson (pictured), finishing with 26 points as he hit six three-pointers including four as the Beacons pulled away in the first half.
Kaleb Burnett followed with 25 points, adding ten rebounds and six assists and
Cory Johnson also flirted with a triple-double ending with 23 points, a team-high 15 rebounds, six assists, and two steals.
"Cory and Kaleb had great all-around games and Squeeky really set the tone to get us going tonight," added Alexander.
For Evergreen (0-7, 0-5) it was a former Beacon leading the way as Tony Frohlich-Fair scored a game-high 28 points including a 12-for-15 night at the charity stripe. Zach Jefferson came off the bench to score 17 and Tyler No added 14 points, all in the second half.
UP NEXT: The Beacons will look for their momentum to build on Saturday when they play host to Northwest University (3-10, 0-5) at 5:00 pm. The Eagles lost to Corban on Friday night, 85-69.
