Second-Half Goal Gives Beacons a Tie

EUGENE, Ore.  – The Bushnell women's soccer team returned home on Monday afternoon and found their second consecutive 1-1 draw, this time against George Fox University. It was their first positive result against the Bruins since 2012.

George Fox (0-1-2) wasted no time in putting the Beacons on their heels as they scored just 50 seconds into the contest as Makena Speer collected a pinball ricochet at the top of the box and fired home the go-ahead strike.

The Beacons found the back of the net 65 minutes later as Kenedi McDonald (pictured) slotted a perfect pass into the middle of the box, finding an unmarked Leslie Monjaras who rocketed a shot from ten-yards out to create the draw.

An extremely even match ended with both teams collecting eight shots, four shots-on-goal and a pair of corner kicks.

Head Coach Halle Meadows said, "We had a slow start in both halves and the first led to a goal right away. But I am proud of the girls resilience once again to come back when being down. Missing some key players for a game like was difficult but players stepped up when called upon. Leslie getting another goal put us on the board and our defense fought all game for us.

Senior defender Lexis Canyete-Asato added, "I am proud of the fight we showed in coming back tonight, but these next ten days are huge for us. We need to lock in, put in the work, and know when to flip the switch because we don't ever want to start off like that again when conference play hits. We are excited for what is ahead though, so let's keep building!"

UP NEXT: Bushnell has closed out their non-conference slate and will prepare to hit the road for Montana to start Cascade Collegiate Conference action on September 18th against The University of Providence (0-1-2).
