EUGENE, Ore. – Senior
Caleb Premo earned assists on all four Bushnell goals, breaking an 11-year old school record, as the Beacons rolled to a 4-1 victory over Pacific University on Saturday evening at Civic Park.
The Beacons (4-0) out-shot the Boxers (0-2-1) 17-7 and allowed just two shots-on-goal in the victory, which featured three Bushnell goals in the first 20 minutes.
Premo fed
Omar Barajas in the 7th minute, and then found
Giovanni Agogliati in the ninth minute with the eventual game-winner. Agogliati scored again, off yet another pass from Premo with the Brace securing his first two collegiate goals.
With a large advantage, Bushnell was able to go to the bench early and often and had eight of their ten field starters out of the game by the end of the first half when Pacific scored their only goal. Carter Zeiset cleaned up the ricochet off a blocked shot from Trenton Zimmermann and punched home the goal in the 44th minute.
The final Beacon goal, and only score of the second half, came in the 68th minute. A throw-in from Premo down the right sideline found Agogliati in stride. Agogliati one-touched a cross into the box where Barajas waited to claim to fire a ten-yard rocket for a brace of his own and his sixth goal of the season.
"We played very well tonight," said Head Coach
Joao Ehlers. "We controlled most of the game and worked very hard defensively. I am happy for Omar and Giovanni's goals for Premo's assists in tonight's match."
Premo's four dimes break the former record of three assists, set by Aaron Chesnut against Multnomah in 2014. He also moves into second-place on Bushnell's career assists list, only behind teammate Barajas.
Premo said, "I am extremely happy with the performance overall. We came out hot and the forwards finished great today. I am proud of the whole team's effort tonight. We are focused, determined, and ambitious for the season to come.
UP NEXT: Bushnell, who is 4-0 for the third time in school history, will look to keep the momentum going next week as they travel to Northern California for a pair of NAIA contests in their final tune up before Cascade Collegiate Conference action. The Beacons head to Vallejo, California, home of California Maritime Academy, who will host a neutral site game against Pacific Union College (0-1) on Thursday. The Beacons also take on Cal Maritime on Saturday in the season opener for the Keelhaulers.
