VANCOUVER, B.C. – The Bushnell baseball team dropped their first game of the 2025 Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament on Friday morning as the No. 4 seed Beacons lost to the No. 5 seed College of Idaho, 8-3.
Â
It was Bushnell's first-ever loss in the CCC tournament, after going 3-0 to win the championship last season.
Â
The last time
Braden Proud (2-1) faced off against the C of I, he held the Yotes without an earned run in a seven-inning start while striking out eight batters, on his way to a CCC Pitcher of the Week honor. He wasn't as lucky on Friday as he gave up four runs, all earned in two innings of work, allowing five hits and hitting three batters.
Â
The Yotes built a 5-0 lead through four innings, before the Beacons finally got on board in the fifth on a two-run double from
Reece Carganilla. College of Idaho answered with two more runs on reliever
Ethan Sachs in the sixth inning.
Â
Bushnell scored one more on a
Jordan Wilson Sacrifice Fly in the eighth, only to have C of I answer again in the top of the ninth.
Â
The Beacons finished the game with just four hits including doubles from Carganilla,
Will Hudler and
Chase Nye. Yote starter Oliver Massie (1-3) picked up his first win of the season, striking out seven batters over seven innings of work.
Â
UP NEXT: The Beacons (32-19) drop into the first elimination game of the tournament on Saturday morning at 11:00 am, where they will face off against Oregon Tech (36-13). The Owls dropped their tourney opener on Friday afternoon to Lewis-Clark State, 6-1.
