VANCOUVER, B.C. – The Bushnell offense managed just two runs on Sunday, both on solo home runs from
Jordan Wilson, as they were swept again by the University of British Columbia, 7-1 and 8-1.
Â
The Beacons (29-13, 19-10 CCC) dropped a series for the first time this season, and in the process fell to fourth-place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference where they are now one game behind Oregon Tech. Â The Thunderbirds (29-12, 24-5) remain tied for first-place in the CCC with Lewis-Clark State.
Â
GAME ONE: British Columbia 7, Bushnell 1
Â
An unusually shaky start from
Max Chapman (5-1) saw the senior take his first loss of the season, giving up six earned runs on eight hits over the first five innings of work.
Â
Loreto Siniscalchi threw three solid innings in relief, allowing just one unearned run on one hit, but it the damage had already been done.
Â
Wilson provided half of the Bushnell hits with two, and all of the run support as he clubbed a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Â
GAME TWO: British Columbia 8, Bushnell 1
Â
The pitching roles were reversed in the night cap as a stellar start from
Kai Keamo was laid to waste by a rough outing from the Bushnell bullpen. Keamo (pictured) threw seven shutout innings, giving up just two hits while collecting six strikeouts as the Beacons took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning.
Â
That was when the wheels fell off as the Beacons allowed all eight UBC runs in the frame on six hits.
Garrett Vohs (4-2) took the loss as he started the eighth but wasn't able to record an out with a hit and two hit-by-pitch.
Â
Wilson once again gave the Beacons their only run in the sixth inning, hitting his record 38th home run of the season. The senior now ranks fourth all-time in Cascade Conference history, and is one away from tying the previous long-standing conference record. The new record currently sits at 41 (Charlie Updegrave, LC State).
Â
UP NEXT: The Beacons will come home for their final series of the season at Hamlin Sports Park as they take on the other conference-leaders in Lewis-Clark State College for a four-game series, beginning Friday at 2:00 pm. Â
