SALEM, Ore. – The Bushnell softball team earned a pair of late-inning victories on Saturday, starting off a weekend series with rival Corban with a sweep.
Â
GAME ONE: Bushnell 3, Corban 2 (8 Innings)
Â
In a contest that featured nine combined errors and just one earned run for either team, Bushnell hung one of those unearned runs on the Warriors in the top of the eighth inning to claim the road victory as
Marina Castaneda's hit to the pitcher was misplayed and
Ashlyn Martin came around to score with two outs.
Â
The game-winner came after the Warriors had tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out rally of their own, sandwiching an error between two singles that made it 2-2.
Â
The Beacons had earlier taken a 2-0 lead, scoring runs in the second and third innings, including
Ashlyn Martin's sacrifice fly in the third for the only earned run of the contest.
Â
Sara Martin threw a strong 4.2 innings to open up the game, allowing just two hits and striking out three, while
Emily Cole struck out three and allowed two hits over the final 3.1 innings to claim her first of two victories on the day.
Â
GAME TWO: Bushnell 5, Corban 1
Â
The Corban defense once again proved treacherous in the night cap as Bushnell scored four unearned runs in the top of the seventh to pull away for the victory.
Â
The Beacons had scored first on an RBI ground out by
Montanah Love in the second while Corban claimed their only earned run of the double-header in the fourth inning, tying the game on an RBI single.
Â
Cole (5-11) went the distance for the Beacons, striking out eight batters and allowing just four hits.
Â
The Bushnell offense collected six hits from six different batters, including a two-run double from
Ashlyn Martin and an RBI single from
Violet Richardson (pictured) as part of the seventh-inning rally.
Â
UP NEXT: Bushnell (10-24, 5-15 CCC) will play two more against Corban (2-33, 1-19) on Sunday, beginning at 1:00 pm.
