NEWBERG, Ore. – The Bushnell softball team outscored George Fox 3-2 over the final six innings, but a disastrous first inning proved unrecoverable as the Beacons dropped a midweek pick-up game at George Fox University, 9-3.

The Bruins (8-8) got off to a hot start as eight of their first ten batters in the bottom of the first reached base, building a 7-0 lead without any errors or extra base hits helping the cause.

Bushnell mounted a comeback attempt in the top of the fourth, getting three runs on just one hit, taking advantage of a pair of GFU miscues. Marina Casteneda provided the one hit, getting a two-run single that scored
Sara Martin and
Ashlyn Martin.

The Beacons managed just three hits in the contest, getting two from
Ashlyn Martin (pictured).

Emma Fournier (0-3) took the loss for the Beacons while
Alexis Perez had a nice outing out of the bullpen, allowing just one run over 3.2 innings of work.
Sara Martin closed things out with the final two innings of work without allowing an earned run.

UP NEXT: The Cascade Conference gauntlet resumes this weekend as Bushnell (6-18, 1-11) is hosting No. 1 Southern Oregon University (25-1, 9-0). The first pitch of the four-game series will be thrown on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Rich Schwab Field.
