Beacons Defeat River Otters to Snap Losing Streak

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Bushnell women's basketball team put the breaks on a five-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon, taking down Lewis & Clark College in a non-conference matchup, 80-72.

The Beacons (2-8) led 37-35 at the intermission but outscored the River Otters 20-11 in the third quarter to build a double-digit lead. Lewis & Clark Lewis & Clark responded, scoring ten straight to start the final quarter and pull within 57-56 with 7:17 remaining, but the Beacons countered with nine straight points to put the game out of reach.

Head Coach Chad Meadors said, "It was certainly good for the Beacons to get a win. We are trying to figure things out and it was nice to see some scoring. We are getting closer to playing the way we are going to have to play to win in the CCC and some of our next steps are just learning how to win and hold teams off, and play consistently over 40 minutes."

Senior Kenzi Pedersen (pictured) had her biggest game of the season so far, scoring 26 points to lead the Beacons on 9-for-13 shooting. She added a team-high nine rebounds. Ciena Tumoine added 14 points and four assists while Ayden Krupke capped off a 76-point week with 13 points, adding six rebounds three assists and three steals. "It was very encouraging to see Kenzi break out tonight, added Meadors. "Ciena played really well, especially defensively. She was a real difference maker."

The River Otters (2-5) had four starters in double-figures, led by 17 points from Hailey Perez. Kaitlen Carns added 13 while Lilly Jordan and Lauryn Frederickson each scored ten.
