Shooting Struggles Hurt in Road Loss to No. 20 OIT

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Bushnell women's basketball team shot just 25% from the floor on Friday night, falling in Cascade Collegiate Conference action to Oregon Tech, 71-45.

The Beacons (2-9, 0-3 CCC) never led in the contest and were tied early at 8-8 on a pair of Kyra Quinn free throws as the Owls (7-4, 3-0) proved their NAIA Coaches Poll ranking behind 44% shooting and a 53-35 rebounding advantage.

Head Coach Chad Meadors said, "OIT is good and we are still trying to figure out a lot of things, but we found some positives. We are learning to play hard as a group, and we need a few more players to step up. Obviously we have got to hit some shots. We got off to a good start in the first quarters. We shot 4-for-16 and were only down two points, and we could have and should have made more of those shots, which would get us off to a really hot start. Now we have to refocus and get ready for the task at hand against Southern Oregon tomorrow."

The Beacons were led by Ayden Krupke, the only Beacon in double-figures with 17 points and six rebounds. Sabrina Flowers added eight points and three assists while Kenzi Pedersen added six points and three boards.

Bushnell definitely had some bright moments, especially in their perimeter defense as they held the Owls to just 2-for-17 shooting from three-point range. Oregon Tech had four players in double digits, led by 17 and ten rebounds from Tatum Schmerbach. Olivia Sprauge added 11 points, seven boards, three assists and three steals.

UP NEXT: The Beacons turn around on Saturday afternoon, headed to Ashland for a 3:00 pm clash with Southern Oregon University (8-3, 3-0). The Raiders knocked off No. 18 Corban on Friday evening, 57-50.
