EUGENE, Ore. – Senior
Ayden Krupke had a career night for the Beacons and the Bushnell offense finally got rolling in the Cascade Collegiate Conference opener, but it wasn't enough as the team fell to Corban University on Tuesday night, 94-85.
Krupke posted the highest point total for a Beacon in 17 years as she scored 36 points. It was the second-highest total in school history and the most since Emily Gray set the record with 38 in November 2008.
Bushnell (1-7, 0-1 CCC) hit 48% from the field, but the usually sturdy Beacon defense allowed the Warriors, ranked No. 22 in the latest NAIA coaches poll, to shoot 56% from the field. Corban put together the highest point total allowed by Bushnell since 2021.
Head Coach
Chad Meadors said, "We battled tonight, but Corban is really good. They can put the ball in the basket and they are very efficient. We played really well, and certainly had our best offensive night so far. We needed to be a little better in transition defense, getting back and getting settled. We gave up too many quick buckets, but we were attacking downhill, and we stopped pressing and forcing things and really played as a group. There were a lot of positive things and it was a step in the right direction and we found the way that we need to play. Just need to get back on defense and make some more stops."
Krupke finished her night shooting 12-for-27 from the field, tying Gray's record for field goals attempted. She was also 9-for-11 at the free-throw line and added seven rebounds and four assists.
Sabrina Flowers followed with 14 points while Kenzie Pedersen added seven.
The Warriors (8-0, 1-0), who shot 10-for-12 from the field in the fourth quarter, were led by Jersey Huerta, scoring 30 points and seven assists. Jenna Albrecht added in 19 while Emilia Bishop scored 11 points with a game-high nine rebounds.
UP NEXT: The Beacons continue what will be a six-game road trip on Saturday when they head to Portland to take on Warner Pacific University (3-3) at 3:00 pm.
