Beacons Suffer First Conference Loss

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Bushnell men's basketball team lost a Cascade Collegiate Conference game for the first time this season, dropping a 79-63 decision to No. 20 Oregon Tech on Friday night.

The Beacons (5-5, 2-1 CCC) struggled from outside, shooting a season-low 15.6% from three point range, and were never able to overtake a talented Owls team despite making numerous runs in the game.

Bushnell held an early 8-2 lead but Oregon Tech was able to take the lead for good with 14 minutes to play in the first half as they used a 12-0 run. The Beacons trailed by nine points at the intermission and were down by as many as 15 before going on an 18-7 run to get within four points, 54-50 with just under 11 minutes to play.

The Owls buckled down over the final stretch to hold off the Beacons and remain undefeated in Cascade Conference action.

Bushnell was led by Cory Johnson, coming off the bench to score 15 points. The Beacon reserves ended the night with a 33-23 scoring edge over their OIT counterparts. Kaleb Burnett added 13 points and had seven rebounds while Isaiah Wallace finished with eight points and a team-high two assists.

Oregon Tech (8-3, 3-0) had four players in double-digits, led by a 20-point, 15-rebound effort from Dakota Reber. Jackson Cooper did a little of everything, scoring 18 points to go with six rebounds and six assists.

UP NEXT: The Beacons close out the calendar year on Saturday at 5:00 pm as they travel to Ashland to take on Southern Oregon University. The Raiders (5-5, 3-0) defeated Corban at home on Friday night, 71-61.
