EUGENE, Ore.  – The Bushnell men's soccer team benefited from a loss behind them in the standings on Friday evening and clinched a spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament. The Beacons were defeated in their own game, 3-0 at the hands of second-place Carroll College.  Â

The Beacons (10-5-2, 4-5-2 CCC) return to the tournament for just the second time in school history and will make their first trip in eight years. Bushnell will finish no lower than eighth in the standings, which is where they currently sit with one game remaining.

Friday's result was not what the team wanted, as the struggled to find any offense, out-shot 17-5 while creating just one shot-on-goal.

The Saints (11-2-2, 9-1-1) wasted little time as the scored the game-winning goal in the 13th minute when Felix Billard found Pedro Teixeira on a cross.

Billard made it 2-0 early in the second half on a penalty kick and the in the 80th minute Teixeira completed the brace off a pass from Sam Loughton.

With just two games remaining in the regular season, Bushnell sits in a three-way tie with SOU and Oregon Tech for fifth-place in the CCC at 14 points. They will look to clinch their first Cascade Conference tournament appearance in eight years as they close out the season at home next weekend.

UP NEXT: Bushnell will close out the regular season on Saturday, taking on Rocky Mountain (6-1-7, 5-1-5) at 7:30 pm. The Beacons can still finish as high as eighth in the CCC with a win, depending on other results around the conference.
