EUGENE, Ore.  – For the fourth time in school history, the Bushnell men's soccer team has won eight games, needing just ten games to accomplish the feat as they defeated Walla Walla University on Friday afternoon, 2-0.
Â
The Beacons (8-2, 2-2 CCC) had trailed in the shot count early, but finished the game out-shooting the Wolves (1-3, 1-3) 15-3 over the final hour of play, finishing with a 15-7 margin while scoring a goal in each half.
Â
Head Coach
Joao Ehlers said, "It was a great performance and team effort against a good opponent. The guys did a great job controlling the tempo of the game and scoring in crucial moments."
Â
Bushnell broke through with the game winner in the 33rd minute when a perfectly placed cross from
Danny Rojas found
Joan Remo Morales who scored from the dead center of the box.
Â
The second half, which the Beacons dominated to the tune of an 11-1 advantage in shots, saw Bushnell score an insurance goal on a breakaway when
Omar Barajas found a streaking
Caleb Premo. The senior punched home his second goal of the season, sneaking the ball around the keeper and into the corner of the net.
Â
"I was very happy with the boys eagerness to fight," said Premo. "Coming off a hard weekend can be difficult but everyone played with passion and determination and we bounced back from our losses to Eastern and College of Idaho."
Â
Senior keeper
William Haberfield secured Bushnell's sixth shutout of the season and needed to make just one save on WWU's only shot-on-goal.
Â
UP NEXT: The Beacons, who kicked off a five-game homestand, play host to Warner Pacific University on Sunday at 3:30 pm. The Knights (6-3, 2-2) also earned a 2-0 victory on Friday, defeating Corban with a pair of goals in the final 23 minutes.
