EUGENE, Ore. – A tense 90-minute battle, featuring 44 combined fouls, didn't break Bushnell's way on Sunday afternoon as Warner Pacific snuck out with a 2-1 Cascade Collegiate Conference men's soccer victory.
The Beacons (8-3, 2-3 CCC) trailed in the shot count, 11-10, but had more shots-on-goal, including five in an intense scoreless second half.
All three goals were tallied in a 22-minute stretch of the first half, kicked off by Warner Pacific's Bodo Calderon in the 17th minute.
Bushnell found the equalizer in the 28th minute when a corner kick from
Manuel Bleck da Silva sailed to the back post and found the waiting head of
Jorge Lopez for the score.
The Knights followed that up in the 39th minute with the eventual game-winner as Calderon assisted on a goal for Bryan Jimenez.
Warner Pacific improved to 7-3 on the season and 3-2 in the CCC with the victory.
"I liked the effort and energy today," said Head Coach
Joao Ehlers, "but we struggled defensively in the beginning of the game and we ended up paying a high price at the end."
UP NEXT: The Beacons remain at home next weekend and will play in primetime for the first time this season, hosting Evergreen (1-7, 1-4 CCC) on Friday at 7:00 pm.
