Beacons Break 19-Game Losing Streak to Eagles

EUGENE, Ore.  – For the first time since the program's inaugural season in 2006, the Bushnell women's soccer team claimed a victory over Northwest University, defeating the Eagles 1-0 on Saturday in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

Bushnell (6-3-2, 5-2 CCC) out-played the Eagles (6-4-3, 2-2-3) from wire to wire, holding a 13-8 advantage in shot attempts and allowing just three shots on goal on their way to their fourth shut out victory this season.

The only score of the game came in the 33rd minute when senior Stephanie Llanos (pictured) found the ball in the top of the box, made a move past two defenders and fired a goal from the left side of the goal mouth into the right side of the nylon for the game winner.

"Today was a tough game," said Llanos. "We knew they were a strong team, but everyone worked hard defensively and played their role. We scored early and from there it was all about fighting together until the final whistle and playing as a family."

The Beacons have allowed just seven shots-on-goal during their currently four-game winning streak, including three tonight that led to three more saves for goalkeeper Ana Augusto. The senior has now run her personal shutout streak to 385 minutes and lowered her Goals Against Average to 1.03.

Augusto said, "From defense to offense, we are giving everything we have and that is something to celebrate. It is an honor to be a part of this family, and we are not done yet. We will keep working hard to continue achieving great results."

Head Coach Halle Meadows said, "the back-to-back games that this conference gives us are always hard, especially when you play an opponent like Northwest on night two. We anticipated a tough game and knew we would have to grind until the finish. We held strong defensively, limiting their chances, and we were able to put ours away."

The Beacons are now 2-19-1 all-time against the Eagles, and pick up their first-ever win against Northwest in a Cascade Collegiate Conference game. The last win came in Bushnell's first season, a 3-1 victory on the road. Since that game, the Beacons had only scored six goals against NU in 20 meetings.

UP NEXT: With a 5-2 conference record and 15 points, the Beacons have moved into a third-place tie with Eastern Oregon University in the Cascade Conference. They will look to keep their momentum going on Thursday night when they welcome ninth-place Corban University (5-7, 2-5) into the friendly confines of Civic Park for a 4:30 pm kickoff.
