EUGENE, Ore.  – Despite playing down a man for the final 15 minutes, The Evergreen State College men's soccer team was able to pull off an improbable game-tying goal in the final six minutes, forcing a 1-1 draw with Bushnell University in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.
Â
After a scoreless first half, the Beacons (8-3-1, 2-3-1 CCC) finally got on the board in the 68th minute when
Danny Rojas headed home a point-blank shot off a corner kick from
Manuel Bleck da Silva.
Â
After Kairos Joaquin was sent off with his second yellow card in the 75th minute, the home team looked to be in control, fighting to hold on to their 1-0 lead.
Â
A late Beacon foul from just outside the 18-yard box came with just under six minutes to play, however, and the Geoducks (1-7-1, 1-4-1) would capitalize. Alejandro Gallegos took the free kick, which Bushnell keeper
William Haberfield was able to get his mitt on with a diving save.
Â
The rebound careened straight to a streaking Cooper Davis, who fired the baseline strike into the right side of the net for the equalizer.
Â
Bushnell finished with a 21-9 advantage in shot attempts, including nine shots-on-goal, giving ESC keeper Tom Cole an eight-save match. Â Â
Â
"Tough result for us tonight," said head coach
Joao Ehlers. "We were poor offensively and struggled to finish the chances that we created."
Â
UP NEXT: The Beacons remain at home next weekend and will play in primetime for the first time this season, hosting Evergreen (1-7, 1-4 CCC) on Friday at 7:00 pm.
