EUGENE, Ore. – It was déjà vu all over again for the Bushnell men's soccer team, playing to a 1-1 Cascade Conference draw after giving up a late tying goal to Northwest University in Cascade Conference action.
After battling through 80 scoreless minutes, it was the Beacons who pushed across the first goal.
Joan Remo Morales laced a through ball down the right side to
Caleb Premo, who one-timed a cross into the box.
Omar Barajas came in for the kill, firing home the goal inside the box.
The Beacons (8-3-2, 2-3-2 CCC) had finally broken through after a dominant showing up to that point as they finished the game with a 21-9 advantage in shots and posted 12 corner kicks, the most in seven years, with nothing to show for it to that point.
The elation, however, wore of quickly as the Eagles (3-5-4, 0-4-3) found a way. Taking a page out of Evergreen's playbook from the night before, Northwest caused a foul to be called from just outside the goal box with under a minute to play at nearly the exact same spot on the field. With 33 ticks remaining, Joao Fonseca laced the ensuing free-kick into the upper left corner of the net for the equalizer.
After the game, head coach
Joao Ehlers said, "We struggled once again to be efficient offensively tonight and it cost us. We are pleased with the energy and intensity that we played with, and are glad to get another point in the conference standings."
UP NEXT: With a pair of draws this weekend, the Beacons now have eight points in the CCC standings and sit in a three-way tie for eighth-place in the conference. One of those teams with identical 2-3-2 CCC records comes to town on Thursday when Corban University pays a visit at 7:00 pm.
