EUGENE, Ore. – Momentum remained on Bushnell's side on Friday as the Beacons knocked off The College of Idaho women's basketball team, 64-61. The win moved Bushnell into a three-way tie for fifth in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
Â
A close game early on, with eight lead changes and five ties, the Yotes took the lead late in the first half and held the advantage throughout the entire third quarter.
Â
Bushnell rallied back to take a 49-47 lead on an
Ellis Mastel jumper and eventually claimed the lead for good on their next possession when
Libby Mathis (pictured) hit a layup, kick-starting a 10-0 run that put the Beacons ahead 61-52.
Â
The Yotes rallied back, and made it a three-point game with a triple at the buzzer, but the Beacons escaped with the win after shooting 44% from the field.
Â
This was a good win tonight, playing tough and really dominating on the glass which is something we need to continue to do to have success in this conference. We shot the ball well and when you do that you give yourself a great chance to win. We have been building confidence for a few weeks now and it was nice to play a top-tier team in our conference and come away with the win."
Â
Mathis led Bushnell (9-12, 8-7) with a strong double-double, scoring 17 points to go with 18 rebounds. Mastel followed with 14 points while
Ayden Krupke posted 12.
Liv Tjoelker added ten points and led the Beacons with four assists.
Â
The College of Idaho (10-19, 8-7) was led by Brooke Beresford, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds. Mia Austin came off the bench to hit five three pointers and also finished with 17 as the Yote reserves out-scored the Beacon bench, 32-8.
Â
With an 8-7 conference mark, the Beacons are now tied with The College of Idaho and Corban for fifth-place in the CCC and all three teams are now one game behind Eastern Oregon (13-7, 9-6), Bushnell's opponent on Saturday. The Beacons will tip-off at 3:00 with the Mounties, looking to move into a tie for fourth.
