PORTLAND, Ore. –
Ellis Mastel posted the second-highest scoring performance by a freshman in school history on Saturday, collecting 31 points as Bushnell took down the Multnomah Campus of Jessup University, 75-63.
Â
The Beacons led by as many as 19 points during the game, and for the second night in a row, absolutely dominated down low, holding a 54-20 advantage from points in the paint. They used their size advantage to power their way to a season-best 47.7% field goal percentage.
Â
"This was a great weekend for the Beacons," said Head Coach
Chad Meadors. "We got a road sweep and for the first time all year we had back-to-back games where we shot the ball really well. We played through things and it was really fun."
Â
Mastel hit 15 field goals in the game, the most by a Beacon in 17 years and the second-highest total in school history, going 15-for-21 for 31 points, adding 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
Â
Mastel may have been the headliner, but two other Beacons had their names firmly planted on the marquee as
Ayden Krupke and
Libby Mathis both came close to triple-doubles. For Krupke, her 13 points were complimented by nine rebounds and a season-high eight assists. Mathis scored just nine points but added seven assists and tied Mastel with 13 rebounds.
Â
Meadors said, "Ellis was unbelievable tonight and I couldn't be more pleased for her. Ayden ran the floor, Libby was passing out of double-double teams, and it was a great win for us and a step in the right direction."
Â
The Lions (6-14, 4-10) were held to 31% shooting. They were led by Jersey Huerta with 19 points and Gracie Browning with 18 points and ten rebounds.
Â
With the win, the Beacons improved to 8-12 on the season and moved back to .500 in the CCC at 7-7, tied for sixth-place and with a three-game lead over eighth.
Â
"Now we need to build on this momentum," said Meadors. "One is a good feeling, two is a trend, and now we can't wait to look for a streak next Friday."
Â
The Beacons return home next weekend and will play host to The College of Idaho (10-9, 8-6) on Friday at 5:30 pm. Â Â
