Beacons Pick Up Huge Road Win

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Bushnell men's basketball picked up their first-ever win in Lewiston, Idaho on Friday evening, knocking off No. 15-ranked Lewis-Clark State, 89-78 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

Head Coach Eddie Alexander said, "This was a big-time game from our guys defensively. They locked in on and executed the scout, which is something we have been struggling with. It was huge to get Roy Bunn back from injury tonight, we got a big-time double-double from Cory Johnson and Luke was huge tonight playing at all three levels. I am so proud of him."

Bushnell (6-9, 2-7 CCC) ended a six-game losing streak as their defense was able to catch up with their sharp-shooting offense, holding the Warriors to 3-for-19 three-point shooting. The Beacons shot 54% from the field and out-rebounded LC State, 39-25.

A closer game than the final score may indicate, Bushnell and LC State battled for 40 minutes and traded leads 11 times. The Beacons took their final lead with just under ten minutes to play on a three-point play by Ashton Harvey, part of a 16-4 run for the visitors that gave them a six-point lead after trailing by six.

Things remained close until the final minute, when Turner Livingston (pictured) busted the game open with a clutch three-pointer to give the Beacons a seven-point lead and force LCSC to play the foul-and-free-throw game for the final 60 seconds. "I can't say enough about the defensive effort from Turner tonight," said Alexander, "and he hit the biggest three of his career."

Bushnell was 22-for-24 at the free-throw line and out-scored the home team off the bench, 29-8, thanks in large part to a 17-point, seven rebound effort from senior Luke Smith who went 6-for-10 from the field.

Cory Johnson led the team with 18 points, adding a game-high ten rebounds for the double-double, while Roy Bunn collected 16 points. Ashton Harvey chipped in 13 points as well in the win.

LC State (12-3, 7-2) had four players in double-figures and dominated the paint, outscoring the Beacons 50-34 in the paint. The Warriors hit 62% of their shots inside the three-point arc and were led by John Lustig's game-high 21 points. Alton Hamilton threw in 19 points, eight rebounds and a pair of blocks.

The Beacons will look to make it two in a row on Saturday night as they travel to Washington to take on Walla Walla (2-11, 1-8) at 8:00 pm.
