Beacons Open Floodgates to Close Road Trip

PASADENA, Calif.  – The Bushnell women's soccer team broke out in a big way on Tuesday morning, closing out a three-game Southern California road trip with a 6-1 victory over Providence Christian College.

The Beacons (1-2) posted their highest goal total and largest margin of victory since 2019. Head Coach Halle Meadows said, "This was a good team win. We made some errors, but luckily, we were able to put the game away with a lot of goals. We had multiple players score which is always nice to see, and it was a good ending to a tough road trip."

Bushnell was shell-shocked just three minutes into the game as Sutton Denny scored to give the Sea Beggars a 1-0 lead. The Beacons, however, adjusted quickly and went on to allow just one more shot-on-goal over the final 86 minutes, holding a 12-2 advantage in the Shots on Goal and a 14-7 advantage in overall shot attempts.

The Beacons finally got on the board with the equalizer in the 23rd minute as senior Emily Puita scored off a pass from senior Lanaeya Botelho (pictured).

The game-winner came just six minutes later as sophomore Adrie Lader took advantage of a defensive miscue, intercepted the ball and scored from ten-yards out into an empty net.

Bushnell poured on the insurance goals in the second half with Botelho scoring a pair of netters in the first 14 minutes. The first came on a pass from Puita, while her second effort was created by a pass from junior Stephanie Llanos.

"I am proud of how the team responded after getting scored on," said Botelho. "We kept possession and were able to switch our point of attack and break down their defense. We stayed composed, created and capitalized on spaces to secure the win."

Llanos added her first of the season in the 69th minute, burying a 25-yard floater over the head of the keeper. Freshman Indianna Chambers added her debut collegiate strike in the 84th, with a free-kick from nearly the exact same spot on the field.

Chambers said, "Our team chemistry is really starting to show on the field and I am excited to have been able to contribute a goal for the first time in my collegiate career."

The Beacons will be back in action on September 6 when they play host to Pacific Union College at 11:00 am.
