Beacons Win with Pair of Shutouts

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Bushnell softball team got their final series of the season off to a strong start on Friday afternoon, posting back-to-back shutouts for the first time in two years as they dominated Warner Pacific University with 10-0 and 4-0 victories.

GAME ONE: Bushnell 10, Warner Pacific 0 (Five Innings)

Continuing her hot streak, junior Emily Cole (8-14) pitched yet another gem in the opener with a two-hit shutout as Bushnell claimed the run-rule victory.

The Beacons scored their ten runs on just nine hits, benefitting from five WPU errors with only six of their runs being considered earned. Seniors Ericka Allen, Hannah Tennant, and Madison Steelman all had two hits apiece for the Beacons while Taylor Kenworth went 1-for-2 in the leadoff spot, scoring twice and earning two RBI.

Bushnell also stole four bases in the game, including two for Steelman. With 41 career steals, she needs just two to move into second place on Bushnell's career list.

GAME TWO: Bushnell 4, Warner Pacific 0

Emma Fournier (pictured) (3-3) earned her first complete game and first shutout with the Beacons as she scattered seven hits and struck out five batters in the game-two victory.

Bushnell was very productive with small-ball in the night cap, manufacturing all four of their runs. In the second inning, with runners at first-and-third, Kiley Campos stole second base and an error on the attempted throw allowed Tennant to score from third.

Similarly, a delayed double-steal brought Faith Wayman across the plate in the fourth inning with her second career stolen base. That same inning, Campos laid down a perfect sacrifice squeeze bunt to bring home Suzi Krstic and make it a 3-0 game.

The Beacons added one more in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Hannah Wambolt to score Tierra Dumlao.

Campos went 2-for-2 in the game for the Beacons while Tennant hit 2-for-3, completing a four-hit day.

Next Up: Bushnell (13-31, 7-19 CCC) will close out the season tomorrow with two more against Warner Pacific University (5-33, 4-22). After the double-header, Bushnell will honor their 11 seniors.
