Beacons Swept by No. 22 Yotes

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The College of Idaho remained undefeated in CCC action on Friday afternoon, sweeping a double-header with Bushnell University behind 5-1 and 8-0 victories.

The Beacons move to 6-11 overall, 1-3 in the CCC while the Yotes, ranked No. 22 in the most recent NAIA national coaches poll, improve to 11-7 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.

GAME ONE: College of Idaho 5, Bushnell 1

After giving up a manufactured run in the first inning, Beacon starter Emily Cole (3-6) had a strong outing for the Beacons, giving up just four hits over the first five innings.

Trailing 1-0, Bushnell tied the game in the bottom of the fifth as Faith Wayman (pictured) connected on her 100th career hit, an RBI single to left field to score Maddi Steelman.

C of I wasted no time before taking the lead for good on an Ashlynn Nixon two-run homer in the sixth. They would add another pair in the seventh on Lexi Navarette's two-run single.

Annie Polster (6-3) gave up one earned run over five innings to claim the victory while Grace Neer threw the final two innings for her second save of the season. The pair combined to strike out nine Bushnell hitters.

GAME TWO: College of Idaho 8, Bushnell 0 (5 Innings)

Abbey Brooks got just two strikeouts for the Yotes in the night cap, but claimed the complete game victory as College of Idaho invoked the run-rule after five innings.

The Beacons scattered five hits, including a double from Violet Richardson, but put just three runners in scoring position.

The same teams will clash again on Saturday for another double-header at Rich Schwab Field, beginning at 11:00 am.
