Owls Complete Four-Game Sweep

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – No. 5 ranked Oregon Tech took two more from the Beacons on a rainy Saturday afternoon, 15-5 in six innings and 8-0 in seven.

Oregon Tech runs their winning streak to 12 games and improved to 20-6 overall and 10-2 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The Beacons drop to 6-21 overall, 1-11 in the CCC.

GAME ONE: Oregon Tech 15, Bushnell 5 (Six Innings)

The Beacons had their best offensive showing of the weekend in the morning contest, scoring five times, but were victimized by the best the Owls had to offer as well as OIT pounded out 17 hits.

For the second day in a row, and third time this season, Nita Cook hit an inside-the-park home run for Tech, pulling in three of her five RBI in the second inning as the visitors went ahead 4-0.

The Beacons answered with three of their own in the bottom of the second, scoring on a fielders choice by Madison Steelman and a two-run double by Molly Haley.

OIT put things away as they scored two in the fourth, four in the fifth, and five in the sixth.

Cook finished the game hitting 3-for-4 with five RBI and four runs scored as she was just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. Zoe Allen went 4-for-5 while McKenzie Staub added three hits.

Faith Wayman and Hannah Tennant each had two hits for the Beacons with Tennant picking up two RBI on a fifth-inning single.

Kacie Schmidt (10-4) got the win for the Owls, striking out four batters. Emma Fournier (1-2) took the loss for the Beacons, giving up nine earned on 12 hits while striking out three.

GAME TWO: Oregon Tech 8, Bushnell 0

The afternoon contest was a much different story, despite the ending, as Bushnell's Liz Hillier (2-8) pitched a fantastic game, holding the Owls scoreless for the first three innings with the Beacons trailing just 2-0 after five. Oregon Tech put things away late, collecting six runs on seven hits in the last two frames.

Bushnell, meanwhile, was only able to come up with three singles against OIT starter Staub (8-2), who struck out five batters and struck out the final ten batters she faced.

The Beacons did manage to load the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning on reliever Carli Moore, but couldn't avoid their first shutout of the series.

Six different players had two hits for the Owls, including Cook and Allen.
