Beacons Swept by No.5 Oregon Tech

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – One of the hottest teams in the country continued to pound the ball on Friday as Oregon Tech pounded out 29 hits across 11 innings of work in a pair of run-rule victories over Bushnell, 13-2 and 11-1.

Oregon Tech, the No. 5 ranked team in the NAIA, ran their winning streak to ten games and improved to 18-6, 9-2 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The Beacons have dropped eleven in a row and move to 6-19 overall, 1-9 in the CCC.

GAME ONE: Oregon Tech 13, Bushnell 2 (Five Innings)

Oregon Tech lead off hitter Nita Cook produced her second inside-the-park home run of the season, highlighting a 14-hit game for the Owls.

Bushnell was able to avoid the shutout against reigning NAIA Pitcher of the Week Kacie Schmidt (9-4), thanks to a two-run double by senior Suzi Krstic in the second innings. It was one of just three hits for the Beacons who also got dingles from Haleigh Wambolt and Madison Steelman.

Emily Cole (3-10) threw a complete game for the Beacons, giving up eight earned runs in five innings.

GAME TWO: Oregon Tech 11, Bushnell 1 (Six Innings)

The Owls added 15 hits in the night cap including three triples, two of which came off the bat of Cook who finished her impressive day batting 4-for-9 with five runs and four RBI. Puakea Milbourne added three RBI, bringing her total to six for the double-header.

The Beacons were once again able to get rid of the goose egg in the scoring column, posting a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI ground out by Faith Wayman that brought home Haliday Hubbard. Hubbard and Wambolt had two hits apiece for the Beacons.

Mckenzie Staub (7-2) struck out seven batters over five innings to get the victory for the Owls. Liz Hillier threw a complete game for the Beacons and allowed just six earned runs.

Bushnell will close out the weekend series with OIT on Saturday, playing a conference game at 11:00 am, followed by the non-conference fourth game at 1:00 pm.
