Bushnell Secures Another Road Comeback

CALDWELL, Idaho – The Bushnell University baseball team scored nine runs in the final three innings to post another impressive come from behind victory on the road, recording 16 hits on their way to a 13-11 game two win over the College of Idaho.

The Yotes (9-11) took the opener with late scoring, 8-5, and the Beacons (7-9) did the same in the second game to even the series at 1-1.

Chase Nye, who went 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and four runs scored, said, "I wasn't trying to do too much at the plate, just bring some energy and get the team going. I put some good swings out there and helped our team win."

Jayden Soriano, who tossed four scoreless innings in relief, added, "Great team win. We fought through adversity early in the game. The team stayed calm and answered back. The bats kept us in the game and gave us a good shot."

Game 1: College of Idaho 8, Bushnell 5

The Beacons scored the first five, but the Yotes scored the next eight, including a four-spot in the bottom of the eighth. C of I tied it up at 5-5 in the eighth and continued the momentum with homers from Austin Moon and Matthew Iwamizu to make it an 8-5 final score.

Albert Jennings and Isaiah Hart each brought in a run with sacrifice flies in the top of the first. Hart made it a 3-0 score with a solo home run in the fourth and Kyle Casperson added on in the fifth with a two-run homer to left center. The Beacons were held to just two hits the rest of the way.

Ethan Sachs got the start for Bushnell, allowing four runs on seven hits through six innings. Trevor Hammond threw a hitless seventh and Colby Knutzen pitched the eighth, allowing four runs on four hits.

Game 2: Bushnell 13, College of Idaho 11

Trailing 11-4, the Beacons put up nine runs in the final three innings.

The comeback started with a five-run seventh. Ethan Stacy singled through the left side to bring in the first and an RBI-double from Jordan Wilson cut the deficit to 11-6. Stacy crossed home on a sacrifice fly and Wilson scored on a Cade Crist single. Caleb Richter reached on an error, scoring Crist to make it a two-run game, 11-9.

Hart continued a strong day at the plate in the eighth with a two-out double to left field, bringing home Nye to narrow the Yotes' lead to just one run, 11-10. Wilson made the comeback a reality with a go-ahead two-run homer to right center, giving the Beacons their first lead of the game, 12-11.

The Beacons added one more in the ninth with a single to left center off the bat of Liam Kerr, scoring Richter for the 13-11 lead with just three outs to go. Garrett Vohs, who entered in the eighth, forced a pair of flyouts to open the ninth inning. The Yotes got a runner on with a single, but Vohs struck out the final batter.
