HELENA, Mont. – After a walk-off victory on Saturday morning, Carroll College claimed a run-rule walk-off in the night cap to clinch a four-game series sweep of Bushnell, winning 2-1 and 9-1.
The Beacons move to 6-17 overall, 1-7 in the CCC while Carroll improves to 7-12-1 and 3-5 in conference.
GAME ONE: Carroll College 2, Bushnell 1
Shut out until the bottom of the seventh, Carroll took advantage of two Beacon errors and took the conference win on a walk-off single. The loss spoiled another fantastic pitching performance for
Emily Cole (3-9) who went the distance and, for the second straight game, did not allow an earned run in a losing effort, finishing with four strikeouts.
Bushnell had been looking to wrap up the win after going ahead 1-0 in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by
Hannah Tennant (pictured) that scored
Violet Richardson from third.
The Beacons were out-hit 6-4 in the game with
Faith Wayman picking up a pair of hits including a double. Kennedy Venner got her second win of the weekend for the Saints, striking out nine batters in a complete-game effort.
GAME TWO: Carroll College 9, Bushnell 1 (Five Innings)
A four-run first inning was all the Saints would need as they out-hit the Beacons 7-2 and walked off a run-rule victory with a four-run fifth inning. Abbie Amend also got nine strikeouts in her complete-game victory.
Tennant repeated her effort from game-one of the series as she collecting both of Bushnell's hits in the game and had an RBI single in the fourth for Bushnell's only run.
Bushnell will have their work cut out for them next weekend when they return home to play host to No. 6-ranked Oregon Tech (16-6, 7-2 CCC). The Owls swept a four-game series from No. 8 Southern Oregon this weekend to pull into a first-place tie in the conference standings.
