Mathis Adds More Single-Season Records

Box Score LA GRANDE, Ore. – Bushnell University and Eastern Oregon University wrapped up the regular season with a preview of the upcoming Cascade Collegiate Conference Quarterfinal game. The Mountaineers came out on the winning end, defeating the Beacons 60-57 on Saturday afternoon.

The Mountaineers led by 11 points with just over six minutes to go in the fourth quarter but back-to-back three-pointers from Ayden Krupke and Mandy Sisul cut the Beacons' deficit to five. Eastern answered with a three of their own at the four-and-a-half-minute mark before both sides were kept scoreless over the next three minutes.

Five consecutive points from Aspen Slifka, beginning with a three-point play, made it a 57-52 Mountie lead with 48 seconds on the clock. The Beacons forced a pair of turnovers and Slifka hit a three at the 21 second mark to cut the deficit to two, 57-55. Bushnell had a few fouls to give before sending EOU to the free throw line. Bayley Brennan made both her free throws and Haley Robinett made one to hold off the Beacons.

Slifka finished with 22 points to lead Bushnell in scoring, adding nine rebounds. The senior is just 10 points away from breaking the all-time Bushnell scoring record (1,830), held by Morgan McKinney.

Libby Mathis tallied 12 points and 12 rebounds to record her 12th double-double of the season, a single-season school record. Mathis also broke single season records for offensive rebounds (94) and total rebounds (310). Aly Mirabile added 11 points and five assists.

Eastern Oregon was led by Brennan, who finished with a game-high 24 points. Beverly Slater posted a 13-point, 15-rebound double-double as the duo combined for 37 of the Mountaineer's 60 points.

The Mountaineers (20-6, 16-6 CCC) will host the Beacons (16-12, 12-10) once again on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m. for a CCC Quarterfinal matchup. Eastern is the four-seed and Bushnell is the five-seed.
