Beacons Blast Wolves for Largest Win in Four Years

EUGENE, Ore. – The Beacons earned a 45-point victory over Walla Walla University on Friday afternoon, taking care of the Wolves 81-36 as they end a four-game losing streak and keep their post-season hopes alive.

The Beacons (7-20, 5-14 CCC) shot 44% from the field and held the Wolves to just 25%, claimed a 52-34 rebounding margin, and forced 21 turnovers while committing just nine of their own. Bushnell outscored WWU 30-14 in the paint and 48-4 off the bench as every Beacon saw at least 13 minutes on the floor.

Head Coach Chad Meadors said, "We played as complete a game as we have played all year. Walla Walla is struggling, but we executed on both ends of the floor tonight for 40 minutes which was exciting to see. Everybody contributed and we made it really hard on their best two players, and kept their number of shots down. It was really cool to see and hopefully we carry that momentum into a big game against a tough opponent on Saturday."

Leading the way for the Beacons offensively was Kyra Quinn, coming off the bench to score 11 points and five rebounds in a season-high 22 minutes of work. Maddie Gerhart and Sabrina Flowers added ten points apiece while Karlee VonMoos, Ellis Mastel, and Dayvis Key each scored nine.

Senior Kenzi Pedersen added seven points, giving her 1001 points combined in her collegiate career with stops at Columbia Basin College, the University of Montana-Western, and Bushnell. "It is a culmination of a great career for Kenzi," said Meadors, "and she has been pretty consistent all the way through her career. We were happy to be able to celebrate this accomplishment in Beacon colors."

Walla Walla (3-22, 1-18) had just one player reach double-digits in the contest as Jaylo Bello posted a game-high 15 points. Sidney Folkenberg added eight.

UP NEXT: It will be a big night for the Beacons as they close the regular season on Saturday, taking on No. 12-ranked Lewis-Clark State at 4:00 pm. The Beacons find themselves tied with Northwest University for the eighth and final playoff spot with one game remaining in the regular season. A win over the Warriors will clinch the eight-seed and help the Beacons avoid a potential coin flip for their season.
